The image below shows a pipe running beneath a duct in a ceiling space
When we look at this in a mechanical plan view the order is correct and we see the pipe in hidden detail.
The problem with viewing services from a ceiling plan in Revit is that the order is correct only if viewing the ceiling from below. If we want to see the services from the ceiling space looking down, then the duct is shown in hidden detail suggesting that the pipe is above the duct in the ceiling space.
Rather than using a Revit ceiling plan to view the ceiling grid and services, you might consider this option.
Create a Floor Plan at the ceiling level
In the view properties change the underlay orientation to Reflected Ceiling Plan
This will display the ceiling grid in a floor plan view, as well as showing the services in the correct order when viewed from the ceiling space looking down. The result is shown below.
Review the view range settings and adjust to make sure walls and other details are visible. In this simple example I have used the following settings but you may need to adjust according to your requirements.
Consider altering your browser organisation to accommodate these new views.
This approach is possible for ceilings created in Revit MEP or for ceilings belonging to linked Revit files. However, if you want to place items such as grilles and luminaires at the grid then for ceilings belonging to linked files, change your view to wire frame.
